Life has challenges and hardships and therapy helps us better understand these hardships, gain awareness of our patterns, and create opportunities for change. We often cannot change the circumstances around us, yet we can learn how to grow with the flow rather than fight the current.
When choosing a therapist I believe that it is important to understand the therapist’s theoretical framework coupled with the natural connection. In therapy, the goal is to collaboratively partner with your therapist to reveal the things that are keeping you from reaching your full potential and work toward becoming the best version of yourself.
Therapy also creates a safe and sacred space to work through some of the scary or uncomfortable areas of your life and to create healing. My practice utilizes a variety of evidence-based approaches, which are tailored to each situation, as therapy is less effective when conducted in a cookie-cutter approach. The following theoretical frameworks inform my practice, although other approaches are integrated as appropriate: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Strengths Perspective, Solution-focused, Systems Theory, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Brief Task-Centered Treatment, along with scientific understandings of how the brain and central nervous system work most optimally. Another approach used is called Brainspotting, please click here to learn more about this brain/body technique and how it can help. Additionally, I’ve completed a 200+ hour Yoga Teacher Training through Subtle Yoga (the first mental health yoga program), which allows me to integrate a mind-body approach including the neuroscience, relaxation, and breathing techniques used in yoga to complement therapeutic approaches, for those who are interested in using other healing traditions beyond traditional psychotherapy. My practice encompasses the whole person – the past, present, and future - along with all integrated components of the person (mind, body, and soul).
